High school marching band fans across the Tri-State cast more than 140,000 votes in two recent online polls, and now the winners from Indiana and Kentucky will compete head-to-head, WOMI Owensboro reported.
The Evansville North High School Green Brigade won the Southern Indiana poll with 51% of the votes, according to the station. The Hancock County High School Hornet Band received 36% of votes in the Western Kentucky poll after bringing home a championship trophy from a competition at Murray State University.
The cross-river matchup comes as both states prepare for championship events on Saturday, Oct. 28. The Kentucky Music Educators Association will crown its state champion at Western Kentucky University, while the Indiana State School Music Association will hold its state championship at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, WOMI Owensboro reported.
The station said it is unclear whether either band will compete at those state events, but both ensembles are currently competing for fan votes. The head-to-head poll closes Thursday, Oct. 12, with the winner announced Friday, Oct. 13. Fans may vote multiple times.
