Iowa Student to Perform in Union Sunday School Concert Series

Haleena Thompson, a student at the University of Iowa, will present the opening performance of the 2026 Union Sunday School Concert Series, according to Montauk Historic Site and the Clermont Historical Society.

Thompson is studying organ performance with Gregory Hand and participates in local recitals, organizes a continuo club, and is involved as a registrant at the University of Iowa, as reported by the Fayette County Newspapers. She also has interests in music theory, jazz piano, and composing for Scottish pipe bands, and hopes to pursue graduate education and teach organ lessons.

The concert is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16. Following the performance, the Clermont Historical Society will offer refreshments at the Clermont Opera House, which is located one block from the Union Sunday School, according to the Fayette County Newspapers.

The annual concert series showcases performances by trained musicians on the largest Kimball Pipe Organ in the United States. The organ, built in 1896, was a gift from former Iowa Governor William Larrabee to his daughter, Anna, who served as the church’s organist for over 60 years, as reported by the Fayette County Newspapers.
