IPS All-City Marching Band earns first State Finals appearance on Oct. 17

The Indianapolis Public Schools All-City Marching Band will make its first appearance at the ISSMA Scholastic Marching Band State Finals on Oct. 17 at Franklin Central High School, where the ensemble is scheduled to perform at 9:05 p.m.

Indianapolis Public Schools reported that the band earned its place in the state finals after receiving a gold rating Oct. 3 during the Scholastic A Regional Qualification competition at Whiteland Community High School, where the group posted one of the top 16 scores in its division statewide.

Band director Josh Goodman, who also teaches music at Arsenal Technical High School, said the same weekend brought additional high-profile performances, including an appearance on WTHR’s Operation Football and a performance at the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana annual gala. Goodman said the students were proud to represent the district well at events prominent across Indianapolis.

The ensemble is also set to perform Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. at the Bands of America Super Regional at Lucas Oil Stadium, according to the district.

The IPS All-City Marching Band is a competitive ensemble composed of students from three district high schools: Arsenal Technical, Crispus Attucks and George Washington.
