Summary:

The Watertown Public Schools seeks an outstanding  District Band/Music Educator to support the Fine, Applied & Performing Arts department for the 2026–2027 school year. WPS is dedicated to excellence, equity, and community. Come be a part of creating a bright future for WPS students!

We are looking for an energetic, inclusive, and collaborative educator to lead a vibrant district-wide band program spanning Elementary through High School, including Middle and High School Marching Band as well as  a foundational Pre-School General Music class. The ideal candidate believes deeply in "music for all" and is dedicated to creating an environment that is accessible, joyful, and supportive—a space where mistakes are welcomed as part of the learning process, and growth walks hand-in-hand with positive reinforcement and community building.

Fine Applied & Performing Arts Department Mission:

As Fine, Applied and Performing Arts Educators, it is our mission to inspire and guide every student to be active participants in the Arts through the use of a sequential, academic, and creative curriculum that nurtures the human spirit and promotes cultural relevance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement a culturally relevant  music curriculum

•  Repertoire selection for all types of music,  including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate and inspirational for the ages and skill levels of students

• Lead instrumental ensembles and provide instructional leadership

• Oversee a comprehensive District Band Program, mentoring students in Elementary, Middle, and High School ensembles

• Direct and manage the joint Marching Band for secondary levels, coordinating public appearances and local community events

• Facilitate a foundational Pre-School General Music section focused on joyful exploration of sound and rhythm

• Implement a sequential Curriculum & Pedagogy utilizing culturally relevant frameworks that celebrate our community's diversity

• Develop and maintain a google classroom with all music, rehearsals and performances posted

• Promote and publicize student performance opportunities

• Provide opportunities for music ensembles to perform

• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide a positive learning environment

• Assesses and evaluates student’s growth

• Communicate clearly and consistently with parents and learning partners on the progress of individual students

• Maintain music library, school instruments, and equipment

• Contribute to the Professional Learning Team regarding teaching and learning

• Develop a parent/community booster club to help in fundraising and visibility

Education/Experience:

• Experience with directing band in K-12 education

• Preferred degree in music education

• Strong knowledge of instrumental skills for band instruments

• Experience inspiring students who are Multi Lingual Learners

• Experience in guiding students with exceptional abilitiesAbility to arrange repertoire to meet student skill level

• Appropriate ensemble level conducting experienceStrong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

• Proficiency in teaching band classes and developing relevant performance opportunities

• Ability to teach improvisation in music at all levels
