Spring Musical Music Director

New York, New York, Xavier High School seeks a Music Director for our spring musical beginning in December.

Founded in 1847, Xavier High School is an academically rigorous, Catholic, Jesuit, college preparatory school in New York City that educates intelligent, motivated young men of diverse backgrounds and means. Xavier teaches students to take responsibility for their lives, to lead with integrity, to act justly in service of others, to pursue excellence in every endeavor and to deepen their relationship with God. Ultimately, Xavier forms young men who will go forth to transform the world for God’s greater glory.

We are seeking a collaborative and experienced Music Director for our spring musical production of Come From Away . The Music Director will be responsible for teaching and leading all musical aspects of the production from rehearsal through performances.

Responsibilities:

Plan and lead twice-weekly music rehearsals from December through April from 3-6 pm

Teach vocal music and support performers in learning harmonies, rhythms, and musical interpretation

Collaborate with the production team, including the director and choreographer

Recruit and secure musicians for the orchestra/pit band for tech week and performances

Lead and conduct the orchestra during tech rehearsals and performances

Support a positive, organized, and encouraging rehearsal environment

Qualifications:

Experience music directing theatrical productions

Strong vocal teaching and conducting skills

Ability to work collaboratively with students/performers and production staff

Experience coordinating and managing musicians

Piano proficiency

Schedule:

Twice-weekly rehearsals beginning in December and additional availability required during tech week and weekend performances in April.
