Middle School Show Choir Band Co-Director and Accompanist

Position Summary

The Show Choir Band Co-Director and Accompanist provides piano accompaniment and musical support for the middle school show choir program, and is co-director of the show band. This position works collaboratively with the choir director to support rehearsals, concerts, and contests from September through February.

Reports To: Choir Director / Building Principal

Position Type: Part-Time / Seasonal

Estimated Hours:

-Leading/accompanying rehearsals: Approximately 3 hours per week, during the 17 weeks of the show choir season.

-Performances: Approximately 34 additional hours

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide piano accompaniment for all middle school show band and show choir performances.

Provide piano accompaniment for vocal rehearsals, working under the choir director.

Independently direct middle school show band rehearsals.

Assist with music preparation and rehearsal support as directed by the choir director.

Assist with instrument transportation, setup, and breakdown for rehearsals and performances.

Attend scheduled rehearsals and performances.

Attendance at all performance events is required and non-negotiable.

Collaborate professionally with choir staff, students, and school administration.

Qualifications

Strong piano performance and sight-reading skills required.

Experience accompanying choirs and/or vocal soloists preferred.

Degree in music and/or piano performance preferred.

Ability to work effectively with middle school students.

Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.

Previous school accompanist or music education experience preferred.

Previous instrumental directing experience preferred.

Schedule

Mid-September through February - Rehearsals:

-Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 7:40am-8:40am (when school is in session)

-3 Saturday morning rehearsals between October-January

January through February - Performances:

-6 scheduled performance days/evenings.

-3 performances are day-long events.

-For day-long and out-of-town events, transportation is provided.

-Some performances and events are on weekends.
