The Maria L. Varisco-Rogers Charter School is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and student-centered Music Teacher (Grades K–4) to join our team for the 2026–2027 school year.

The successful candidate will inspire students to develop a lifelong appreciation for music through engaging, hands-on instruction that fosters creativity, self-expression, and confidence. We are looking for an educator who creates meaningful musical experiences while helping students build foundational music skills in a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

At Maria L. Varisco-Rogers Charter School, we believe music education enriches the whole child by encouraging creativity, collaboration, discipline, and a love of learning.

Essential Responsibilities

Plan, implement, and assess engaging music instruction aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Visual and Performing Arts.

Teach foundational music concepts including rhythm, melody, harmony, tempo, dynamics, movement, singing, and age-appropriate instrumental experiences.

Foster creativity, musical expression, and confidence through singing, movement, performance, and interactive music activities.

Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, participation, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse developmental and learning needs of students in grades K–4.

Integrate music with other academic disciplines when appropriate to enhance student learning and engagement.

Prepare students for school performances, assemblies, concerts, and other special events throughout the school year.

Maintain music equipment, instruments, instructional materials, and classroom resources.

Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and participation.

Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, professional development, and school improvement initiatives.

Support school-sponsored activities, family engagement events, field trips, and other community-building opportunities.

Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.

Qualifications

Required

Valid New Jersey Music Teacher Certification (Standard, CEAS, CE, or Limited CE) or eligibility for certification.

Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.

Successful completion of the New Jersey Criminal History Background Check.

Preferred

Experience teaching elementary music.

Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate music instruction.

Experience directing student performances, concerts, or musical productions.

Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.

Commitment to fostering creativity, inclusion, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

Salary

Starting at $60,170 annually

Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials.
