Apply through the verified listingVillanova, Pennsylvania, The Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, an independent, Catholic, college-preparatory, all-girls day school in Villanova, PA, seeks an experienced music teacher for full-time employment to join the Visual and Performing Arts Department starting September 8, 2026. We are looking for an educator with a strong knowledge of teaching instrumental music for performance, familiarity with a wide range of general music topics, and robust recruitment and retention strategies. Preference will be given to those with 6-12 grade classroom experience, especially in an independent school setting.
Responsibilities:
Lead the school’s instrumental ensembles, both middle and upper school, in rehearsals and performances.
Select and arrange repertoire for the instrumental ensemble using music notation software (Dorico, Sibelius, etc.).
Actively seek out new students for the instrumental music program, retain currently enrolled students, and organize auditions for the instrumental music program.
Teach general music classes for middle and upper school students.
Demonstrate grade-level-appropriate competencies on the following instruments: ukulele & guitar. Preference will be given to candidates who also have experience in piano or percussion.
Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity, expression, and teamwork.
Conduct engaging and interactive music classes that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
Possess a working knowledge of basic sound systems (i.e., operating a soundboard for a live performance).
Participates in the life of the school by supporting student activities/clubs, a homeroom, or other school program.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a similar program
Experienced instrumentalist (band/orchestra instruments)
Previous experience teaching (including leading performances) preferred
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
The ideal candidate will have experience in musical theater and will be excited to work on the fall upper school musical and winter middle school musical performances as the soundboard operator, or in any other capacity as needed or as aligned with the candidate’s skill set.
