Job Overview

Bahlool British International School, a well-established British international school in Baghdad, is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Music Teacher to teach students across both the Primary and Secondary phases.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering a high-quality music education programme that develops students’ musical knowledge, skills, creativity, and appreciation of music. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator who can inspire students through performance, composition, listening, and musical exploration while contributing to the wider cultural life of the school.

The Role

The successful candidate will:

• Deliver high-quality Music lessons across Primary and Secondary phases, ensuring strong progress and engagement for all students.

• Plan and deliver creative, challenging, and engaging lessons in line with the British curriculum.

• Develop students’ practical performance skills, musical understanding, composition techniques, and appreciation of a wide range of musical genres and traditions.

• Assess, monitor, and report on student progress, using assessment information to inform teaching and support individual needs.

• Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that encourages participation, confidence, and creativity.

• Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of all learners, including those with additional needs and those who are more able.

• Organise and lead musical performances, concerts, assemblies, productions, and other school events.

• Support and develop extracurricular music opportunities, including choirs, ensembles, bands, and clubs.

• Promote a culture of creativity, performance, and artistic excellence throughout the school.

• Work collaboratively with colleagues to support curriculum development and whole-school improvement.

• Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, attainment, and wellbeing.

• Maintain high standards of safeguarding and student care at all times.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, Performing Arts, or a related subject.

• Recognised teaching qualification (QTS, PGCE, or equivalent).

• Experience teaching Music across Primary and/or Secondary phases (British curriculum experience preferred).

• Strong subject knowledge and practical musical skills.

• Ability to teach a range of musical disciplines, including performance, composition, and music appreciation.

• Experience leading choirs, ensembles, performances, or extracurricular music activities is highly desirable.

• Strong classroom management skills.

• Commitment to safeguarding, child protection, and promoting student wellbeing.

• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

• Positive, flexible, and professional approach.
