Stonyhurst College is seeking a proactive and highly organised Theatre Technician to support the technical delivery of our extensive programme of productions, performances, concerts, events and whole-school activities. About the Role
As Theatre Technician, you will be responsible for the technical operation, maintenance and development of the College's performance and event spaces. Working closely with the Performing Arts Department and colleagues across the College, you will provide expert technical support for productions, examinations, concerts, admissions events, liturgical celebrations and a wide variety of high-profile school events.
The successful candidate will oversee lighting, sound, staging and production resources, ensuring that our facilities continue to support the exceptional standards for which Stonyhurst is renowned.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide technical support for Drama productions, performances and examinations.
• Plan, rig, focus and programme lighting systems.
• Operate and maintain sound equipment for productions and events.
• Support rehearsals, performances and live events.
• Supervise and mentor student technical crews.
• Deliver technical support for concerts, assemblies, presentations, Open Days and admissions events.
• Construct, install and remove staging, scenery and production elements.
• Manage technical stores, equipment inventories and maintenance schedules.
• Promote safe working practices and ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of the College's Performing Arts and Events provision.
About You
We are looking for an individual who has:
Essential
• Experience in theatre, performing arts or live events technical support.
• Knowledge of theatre lighting systems and lighting control.
• Experience rigging, focusing and operating lighting equipment.
• Experience operating and maintaining sound systems.
• A good understanding of relevant health and safety legislation.
• Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with pupils, colleagues and contractors.
• Flexibility to support evening and occasional weekend events.
Desirable
• Experience within an educational setting.
• Experience in set construction and scenic installation.
• Experience training or mentoring young people.
• Relevant technical theatre, stage management or production qualification.
• First Aid qualification.
• Working at Height certification.
• PAT Testing qualification.
