Kettlethorpe High School

Wakefield, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom · Full Time · Music Education

Apply through the verified listing

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, talented and ambitious Teacher of Music to join our successful school. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate teacher to combine excellent classroom practice with a TLR 2A leadership responsibility for performing arts, encompassing drama and dance. Our school is a Lead School for music in the West Yorkshire area, with both GCSE music cohort numbers and outcomes well above national averages. We have a suite of five practice rooms and host six visiting instrumental teachers from Wakefield Music Services.

Teaching music across Key Stages 3 and 4, while assisting the Team Leader for Performing Arts in driving the development of performing arts, you will promote high standards of teaching and learning, increase student participation and coordinate a vibrant programme of performances, productions and enrichment activities.

We are looking for someone who:

• is an excellent Teacher of Music with strong subject knowledge and a high level of practical skill on an instrument or voice.

• has proficient keyboard skills (the ability to accompany GCSE performance exams is highly desirable).

• can inspire and motivate students of all abilities.

• has the vision and enthusiasm to assist in the leadership and development of performing arts across music, drama and dance.

• is committed to achieving the very best outcomes for young people.

• works effectively as part of a collaborative and supportive team.

In return, we offer enthusiastic students, supportive colleagues, excellent professional development opportunities and the chance to play a key role in shaping the performing arts provision within our school.

Kettlethorpe High School is a place where pupils love to learn. As our last highly positive Ofsted inspection noted, “pupils say they leave the school with fond memories and are well prepared” and “staff enjoy working at the school and feel well supported. CPD is at an exciting stage of development, which will enable individuals to drive their own development and not follow a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach”.

One of the benefits of being a maintained school is that you have access to Wakefield Council’s employee benefits, which cover a range of products, including:

• Cycle-to-work scheme

• Discounted leisure membership

• Discounted travel cards

• Employee assistance programme

As well as the above, the school offers:

• Membership to the Teachers’ Pension Scheme

• A wide range of CPD opportunities

• Free parking on site

For further information and to apply online, please visit kettlethorpehigh.co.uk.

Closing date: Noon on Friday, 2 October 2026.

Kettlethorpe High School is an equal opportunities employer. We are committed to safeguarding our pupils and expect all staff, governors and volunteers to share this commitment. Any successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

What I Wish I'd Known Before Taking the Job
