Purpose of the Role:

Kent College West Cairo seeks to appoint an outstanding and ambitious Head of Performing Arts to lead the strategic development of Music and Drama across the school. This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional educator and arts leader to build one of the leading Performing Arts programmes in the region. The successful candidate will provide visionary leadership for Music and Drama, establishing a culture of excellence, participation, creativity and performance. The postholder will be responsible for developing a comprehensive Music Department that includes curriculum music, instrumental and vocal tuition, ensembles, choirs, orchestras, productions and performance opportunities, while simultaneously leading the development of a dynamic Drama Department and wider Performing Arts programme. The successful candidate will be expected to create a thriving culture in which Performing Arts become a central pillar of school life and a distinctive feature of the Kent College West Cairo experience. This role would suit an ambitious, entrepreneurial and highly skilled Performing Arts leader who is excited by the opportunity to build something exceptional from the ground up and leave a lasting legacy within Kent College West Cairo.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the strategic development of Music and Drama across the school.

• Design and implement high-quality curricula across all key stages.

• Develop and oversee instrumental and vocal tuition programmes.

• Recruit, manage, and support visiting peripatetic music teachers.

• Establish and direct choirs, orchestras, ensembles, drama clubs, and musical theatre programmes.

• Organise concerts, productions, showcases, competitions, and community performances.

• Develop pathways for ABRSM, Trinity, and other recognised qualifications.

• Manage departmental budgets, resources, facilities, and future growth plans.

• Promote Performing Arts throughout the school community and contribute to whole-school enrichment.

Essential Requirements

• Degree in Music, Performing Arts, Music Education, or a related field.

• Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE/QTS or equivalent).

• Experience leading a Music or Performing Arts Department.

• Experience directing choirs, ensembles, productions, and performances.

• Experience in curriculum development and programme leadership.

• Strong organisational, leadership, and communication skills.

Desirable

• Experience establishing instrumental tuition or peripatetic programmes.

• Experience directing large-scale productions and musicals.

• International school experience.

• Familiarity with ABRSM and Trinity examination pathways.
