George Salter Academy are seeking to appoint an outstanding and ambitious Head of Music who is committed to delivering exceptional outcomes for all students and inspiring a lifelong love of music. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher or aspiring middle leader to shape the future of Music within our academy and make a significant contribution to whole-school improvement.

As Head of Music, you will provide strategic leadership for the department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning, excellent student progress and a rich programme of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities. You will lead, motivate and develop the Music team, including teachers, peripatetic staff and support staff, whilst promoting high standards of achievement and engagement across Key Stages 3, 4 and, where applicable, Key Stage 5.

We are looking for someone who:

• Is a qualified teacher with a strong track record of excellent classroom practice.

• Has the ability to lead, motivate and inspire both staff and students.

• Has a passion for Music education and a commitment to achieving the highest standards.

• Has experience of using assessment and performance data to raise achievement.

• Can develop and implement an engaging, ambitious and inclusive Music curriculum.

• Is committed to professional development and continuous improvement.

• Has excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.

• Demonstrates a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

The successful candidate will:

• Lead the strategic development of Music across the school.

• Monitor and evaluate teaching and learning to ensure excellent outcomes for students.

• Ensure high-quality curriculum planning and progression from Key Stage 3 through to post-16 provision.

• Drive student achievement through effective use of assessment and intervention.

• Lead enrichment opportunities including performances, concerts, productions and partnerships with the wider community.

• Manage departmental resources, budgets and health and safety requirements effectively.

• Support and develop colleagues through coaching, mentoring and professional development.
