Position Title: Secondary Theater Arts Teacher

Position Summary: We are seeking an energetic, creative, and student-centered Secondary Theater Arts Teacher who can ignite a passion for performance and storytelling while contributing to our broader academic curriculum. The ideal candidate brings dynamic enthusiasm to the drama classroom—inspiring students both on stage and behind the scenes—and possesses the certification or background to teach a secondary content area (such as English/Language Arts, Social Studies, World Languages, or another elective).

In this role, you will build an inclusive, vibrant theater program while collaborating with a supportive faculty to foster creative expression, confidence, and academic success across multiple subjects.

Qualifications:

Education:

● Bachelor's degree or equivalent

● Valid teaching certification/licensure preferred

Experience: At least three years of experience preferably in International settings. IB Diploma or experience in some type of external selection board will be preferred. Knowledge of the IB programmes - experience in teaching Drama and/or IB Theatre Arts is strongly preferred.

Reports to and is evaluated by: Secondary School Principal

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY INCLUDE

Teaching & Learning

● Plan and deliver engaging, creative, and rigorous Secondary Drama and Theatre instruction using a range of active, student-centered approaches.

● Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of mixed-ability learners from diverse cultural, educational, and linguistic backgrounds, including individual and small group support as appropriate.

● Expose students to a broad range of dramatic styles, genres, traditions, and perspectives that promote creativity, cultural understanding, and student voice.

● Extend learning beyond the classroom by connecting theatre studies to local, regional, and global contexts and authentic performance experiences.

Curriculum, Assessment & Student Progress

● Develop and continually review a balanced, inclusive, and culturally diverse Drama and Theatre curriculum.

● Design and implement formative and summative assessments aligned with school and department expectations.

● Monitor, assess, document, and report student learning and progress, adapting instructional goals and strategies in response to student needs.

● Collaborate with Arts Team colleagues to ensure consistency in curriculum planning, assessment, standardization, and moderation.

Productions & Theatre Program

● Direct and coordinate annual Middle School and High School plays and/or musicals, including planning, rehearsals, production, and performance.

● Create opportunities for students to participate in and develop skills across multiple aspects of theatre and performance.

● Maintain a stimulating, inclusive learning and performance environment that celebrates and showcases student work.

● Ensure the safe and appropriate use, organization, and storage of theatre materials, equipment, tools, and performance spaces.

Collaboration & Professional Growth

● Collaborate with Arts Team members and the wider school community to strengthen the performing arts program and support interdisciplinary learning.

● Remain current with best practices in theatre education, curriculum, technology, and pedagogy through ongoing professional learning.

● Use appropriate technologies to enhance instruction, creation, rehearsal, and performance.

● Engage in professional reflection and work with school leadership to continually strengthen instructional practice.

Professional Responsibilities

● Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, resources, and materials.

● Abide by AISD policies, procedures, and expectations and contribute positively to the wider life of the school.

● Serve as a positive role model and foster a safe, respectful, inclusive, and creative environment for all students.

Assignment of Duties:

Teaching assignments and outside of class duties will be determined by the administration in accordance with school policy. Normally, teachers will have the equivalent of at least one “prep period” and one other non-teaching “duty” period, on average, per day.

Duties Beyond the Classroom:

Classroom teaching is the fundamental responsibility of every staff member. In addition, involvement with students and other staff members in meaningful activities beyond the classroom, especially in the areas of student activities, sports, and clubs, curriculum development, and planning special events, is a vital part of an AISD teacher’s job.
