ROLE DESCRIPTION

Armbrae Academy is committed to providing students with meaningful opportunities to develop their creativity, confidence, collaboration, and passion for the performing arts. We are seeking a dedicated, collaborative, and enthusiastic Band Director to join our team.

The Band Director will lead and develop Armbrae Academy’s band program, creating an engaging, supportive, and musically enriching experience for students. The successful candidate will plan and deliver rehearsals, introduce and develop appropriate repertoire, teach fundamental and advanced ensemble skills, and support students in building confidence as musicians and performers.

This is an exciting opportunity for a music educator who enjoys working with young people and fostering confidence, creativity, collaboration, and a love of the performing arts.

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in music education or a related field, and organizing rehearsals 

  • Strong musical skills, including the ability to assist the students with the technical aspects of their instruments

  • Develop a repertoire for students of diverse levels.

  • Experience working with children or adolescents in a school, theatre, or community setting.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • A commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for students of diverse abilities and experience levels.

  • Enthusiasm for helping young performers develop confidence and a genuine enjoyment of the performing arts.

Key Responsibilities:

The Band Director will hold auditions before Band begins and then lead weekly music rehearsals, focusing on musical development, musical literacy, learning individual parts, and preparing students to perform the music with confidence. They will provide musical direction and accompaniment for rehearsals and performances (May 2027) as required, while supporting students in developing their musical skills and confidence. They will foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive rehearsal environment that encourages students of varying musical abilities to participate and grow. The Band Director will also provide musical leadership during rehearsals and performances.

Schedule & Important Dates

Auditions will be held in October and rehearsals start mid-November and run 1.5 hours a week. Performances are Thursday, May 20th & Wednesday, June 2nd, 2027 at 9:45am.

Total Commitment

Approximately 60 hours of student contact time, including auditions, weekly rehearsals and performances.

Weekly rehearsals will take place from 3:30–5:00 p.m. on one day per week.
