St. Matthew’s Elementary School is a vibrant and growing Catholic school located in the central Fleetwood area of Surrey. Founded in 2012, our school serves approximately 240 students from Kindergarten through Grade 7 in a modern, purpose-built facility designed to support innovative teaching and collaborative learning.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Music Teacher at St. Matthew's School is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction according to the BC Curriculum for students in Kindergarten through Grade 7. The teacher fosters musical growth, creativity, confidence, collaboration, and appreciation through classroom music education, Orff-based instruction, and choral performance.


Responsibilities include:
- Plan and teach music lessons for students in Kindergarten through Grade 7.
- Provide instruction in singing, rhythm, movement, music literacy, listening, composition, and performance.
- Use the Orff approach, including speech, movement, percussion, body percussion, and classroom instruments, to develop students’ musical understanding and creativity.
- Teach and direct a performance choir, for performance at Parish Christmas Concert, School Concerts, and Holy Cross Festival.
- Prepare students for concerts, liturgies, school events and other performances.
- Assess and communicate student progress in accordance with school expectations.

Preferred candidates will
- Maintain and organize musical instruments, equipment, resources, and other duties as assigned.
- Support the mission, values and faith based community of St. Matthew’s Elementary.
- Have a degree or certification in music education. An actual teaching degree not just a Bachelor of Music.
- Have a strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
