Secondary Teacher – Music (starting from August 2027)

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Music teacher to join our Secondary School starting from August 2027. The ideal candidate should look forward to delivering the highest quality of music education in a stimulating, happy, and safe environment.

As such, the successful candidate can look forward to engaging students in character and values education, as well as participating in our vibrant student leadership culture in the school.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

• Classroom Teaching & Curriculum: Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, engaging music lessons for secondary school students. Develop student competencies in performance, composition, music theory, and active listening. Integrate music software and technology into daily learning to support student creativity and production. Differentiate instruction to support learners ranging from beginners to advanced musicians. Assess, track, and report on student achievement, providing constructive feedback to foster individual growth.

• Ensembles & Co-Curricular Activities: Lead, direct, or assist with departmental ensembles (e.g., Choir, Orchestra, Concert Band, or Instrumental Ensembles). Help organize, rehearse, and execute school performances, assemblies, seasonal concerts, and external festivals/competitions.

• Departmental & School Contribution: Collaborate with music department colleagues on curriculum development, resource management, and event planning. Participate in departmental meetings, school-wide events, parent-teacher conferences, and professional development workshops. Maintain equipment, instruments, and music classrooms to ensure a safe and inspiring learning environment.

• Pastoral Care: Undertake pastoral care duties, including form-teachership responsibilities and leading/managing after-school clubs or activities.

Requirements:

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Music, Music Education, or a related discipline, alongside a recognized teaching qualification (e.g., PGDE, Bachelor of Education, or equivalent).

• Teaching Experience: Proven track record of teaching music effectively at the secondary school level.

• Practical Skills: Strong instrumental or vocal performance capability, with competent keyboard/piano skills for classroom accompaniment and demonstration.

• Music Technology: Proficiency in standard music software and notation programs (e.g., MuseScore, Sibelius, GarageBand, or Logic Pro).

• Ensemble Leadership: Demonstrated ability to direct, conduct, or assist with student musical groups.

• Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, effective classroom management, and a collaborative team attitude.

Desirable Qualifications:

• IB Experience: Familiarity or direct experience delivering IBDP Music is advantageous.

• Specialized Ensemble Leadership: Directing experience in specialized ensembles (e.g., Choral Conducting).

• Concert Production: Experience planning school-wide concerts, musical productions, and events.
