Why Join Us

St. Mark’s School seeks an imaginative, energetic, and collaborative musician-educator to teach, strengthen music programming, and bring our community together through performance. We welcome candidates who can engage experienced musicians and inspire students who may not yet see themselves as musicians.

A full-time member of the Arts Department reporting to the Department Head, the Music Program Director will collaborate with arts colleagues and the Chaplains to support a vibrant musical culture and the School’s Episcopal tradition. Like all faculty, they will participate fully in residential school life through teaching, advising, and residential life responsibilities.

What You’ll Do

Collaborate with Arts Department colleagues to strengthen music offerings, expand participation, and contribute to a shared vision for the arts aligned with the School’s mission and strategic priorities.

Teach academic courses in music and/or ensembles annually, with offerings shaped by your musical expertise and student interests (previous offerings include Choir, Jazz Band, Orchestra, Music Theory, & Music Studio).

Partner with the Chaplains to strengthen community singing and student participation in Chapel, providing musical leadership and inclusive repertoire for regular services and special traditions, including Lessons and Carols.

Oversee the private lesson program, supervise the Music Administrative Assistant and part-time music professionals, and manage the budget, instruments, equipment, facilities, scheduling, and performance logistics.

Partner with Admission, Advancement, and Communications to showcase student musicians and strengthen recruitment and community engagement.

Work with Auxiliary Programs to explore appropriate facility rental opportunities and coordinate necessary logistics.

Advise students, contribute to residential life, and fulfill other responsibilities associated with teaching at a residential school.

Fulfill the equivalent of two seasons of co-curricular responsibilities, with assignments based on the candidate’s interests and expertise and the School’s needs. Opportunities may include leading signature music events such as the WICK A Cappella Festival or Cutler Jazz Festival, advising a cappella groups, supporting musical theater productions, or coaching athletics.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome expertise in vocal or choral music, jazz, instrumental ensembles, keyboards or organ, music production, songwriting, or music theory. Candidates should bring depth in one or more areas and the versatility to support a broad music program.

A bachelor’s degree; advanced study in music or a related field is preferred.

Accomplished musicianship and success teaching and mentoring adolescents from diverse backgrounds.

Experience directing ensembles and organizing performances or music programs.

Strong organizational and collaborative skills, with the ability to expand participation and manage program operations; supervisory experience is preferred.

A commitment to inclusive teaching, professional growth, and full participation in boarding school life.

Why You’ll Love It Here

Join a close-knit community with opportunities to develop engaging courses and make a meaningful impact beyond the classroom. Benefits include housing, meals, health coverage, tuition remission, and access to campus facilities.

Salary Range:

$43,500-$85,000, commensurate with experience and educational background.

Southborough, MA, USA Location Report

By SBO+ Staff · Effective 2026-10-20

View this location on OpenStreetMap →

Opportunity and Market

Southborough, MA, USA is evaluated with current MA labor-market evidence because a validated city profile was unavailable. The Census API city profile could not be acquired in this run; the report uses current state labor-market observations and labels their scope explicitly. [2] [3]

Career Outlook

The statewide unemployment rate supplies current labor-market context, but it does not prove demand for this occupation or employer. Occupation-specific scores are omitted. [1]

Compensation

No salary-equivalency or take-home-pay figure is asserted without listing pay and defensible local cost inputs. Federal tax brackets must be applied to the candidate’s actual filing circumstances. [4]

Housing and Cost of Living

HUD Fair Market Rent resources are provided for a housing comparison using the verified worksite or its county. No city rent is asserted when it was not acquired. [5]

Commute

A validated city commute value was unavailable. Confirm the exact worksite, schedule, transit coverage, parking and fuel costs before accepting relocation expenses.

Community Snapshot

State labor-force scale is not evidence of neighborhood safety, culture or community fit; no such inference is made. [3]

Local Economy

Current statewide employment, labor-force and unemployment observations describe the broader labor environment, not a guaranteed city or occupation outcome. [2] [3] [1]

Relocation Considerations

Verify worksite-level housing, commute, taxes, utilities, benefits, contract length and any remote-work restrictions before relocating. [5] [4]

What I Wish I'd Known Before Taking the Job

A healthy statewide labor market does not guarantee that a specialized music education role is easy to replace. Confirm contract stability, nearby housing and the real commute before paying relocation costs. [2] [1]

Methodology

This report uses the latest retrievable BLS Local Area Unemployment Statistics for the listing’s state. It explicitly withholds city, occupation and affordability scores when those inputs were not acquired.
