Role:

The British School, Kathmandu is seeking a passionate and talented teacher of Media Studies A level to lead our successful Creative and Performing Arts (CPA) faculty from August 2027 (see separate advert for Head of CPA).

Media Studies is offered at A level only at TBS, building on skills often developed in GCSE photography, and is an integral part of the (CPA) faculty with strong links to the English Faculty.

Media Studies is an increasingly popular subject among our sixth form students, who excel creatively and are fascinated by media theory and debate. Media students also take an active role in school marketing and communications, regularly recording school events in creative ways and producing video content for the school community. Students take the Cambridge International AS and A level and we also teach media literacy through the Information Literacy curriculum in Key Stage 3. We are looking for an outstanding candidate to lead the CPA faculty and continue to build this exciting department.

All teachers contribute to our extensive co-curricular activities programme, with a minimum commitment of one hour per week throughout the year. Educational trips and residential visits form a key part of our curriculum and all teaching staff take part in the annual school expeditions where each year group across the whole school engages in a week long adventure or service expedition. This is an excellent opportunity for students and teachers alike to experience Nepal outside the Kathmandu valley.

Our School:

The British School Kathmandu is a not-for-profit and a non-selective school, which has a rich history of educational excellence, inclusion and kindness stretching over 60 years in Nepal. The British School, Kathmandu currently educates around 500 students from ages 3-18 from over 30 different countries, from both local and expatriate families, who trust us to care for and educate their children. Our students achieve excellent results, consistently above UK averages, but more importantly, they are kind and a delight to teach. Set within a leafy campus in Lalitpur, Kathmandu, TBS is a small school with a big heart.

TBS is a 3-18 school and we promote ongoing participation in curriculum development, and at times teaching, across all phases of the school. Our ideal candidate will be someone who actively seeks to embrace and learn from professional partnerships across the whole school.

The school is a founding member of the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA) and a fully accredited member of the Confederation of British International Schools (COBIS). It is a British School Overseas (BSO) school and our most recent BSO inspection was October 2025. The patron is H.E. the British Ambassador to Nepal.

Salary:

The school offers a competitive salary package - including annual flights, comprehensive international medical cover, housing allowance, freight allowance and contract completion incentives. The cost of living in Nepal is low and our expat teachers are able to make the most of this, with significant saving potential.

Application Process:

A full application should be sent through the TES portal by 6 am Kathmandu time on Friday 20 November 2026.  Applicants should also upload a current CV and a covering letter on the application portal.

First round interviews will be scheduled in the following weeks

Secondary round interviews will be scheduled so as to complete all interviews by Friday 18th December

All interviews will be online, unless you are currently in Nepal. Well qualified candidates may be interviewed before these dates and early applications are encouraged.

Please note that only candidates invited for an interview will be contacted.

Important Information:

The British School Kathmandu is committed to safeguarding children and young people. All post holders are subject to appropriate vetting procedures, including checks with past employers, a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check, a Prohibition Order Check and the successful application of an ICPC (International Child Protection Certificate). Our safeguarding and safer recruitment policies are shared with all prospective candidates.
