Graduate Teaching Assistant Music

Rugby School

Rugby, Warwickshire, United Kingdom · Full Time · Music Education

Apply through the verified listing

Rugby School is looking to appoint two recent graduates from university or music college. We are seeking musicians who have experience singing in excellent choirs, are considering moving into teaching, and who wish to enhance their skill base through working within a thriving and busy school environment prior to training or a first full job. The work will be varied and that variety will, to some extent, be determined by the personality, enthusiasm and skills of the individuals appointed. GTAs will work closely with members of the full time and peripatetic music staff (approximately 50 colleagues in total).

The successful candidates will play a key role in the renowned Rugby Chorister Programme and will usually be required to sing in up to four services of Evensong each week. Depending on the interests and abilities of the successful candidates, there will also be opportunities to perform at the School (solo recitals, for example), to teach in the classroom, work with the choristers, start their own ensembles, and to collaborate with visiting musicians. Experience of playing an orchestral instrument may be an advantage, but is not essential, though candidates should have sufficient keyboard skills to support their own musical performance and practice within the Chorister Programme.

The Chorister Programme at Rugby School and Bilton Grange started in September 2022 and provides two choirs, one for boys and another for girls. The choristers sing during the week with just occasional commitments at the weekend, and the repertoire is as one would expect in a Cathedral or major parish church. Our programme is supported by scholarships and bursaries up to 100% of the fees are available on a means tested basis.

This is a 10-month fixed term contract and accommodation is included.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are key facets of our core ethos that ‘the Whole Person is the Whole point’. Find out more here: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion - Rugby School

Closing date:  20 November 2026

Start date: September 2027

Applications will be considered upon receipt and we reserve the right to make an appointment before the closing date.  Therefore, an early application is strongly advised.

PLEASE NOTE

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers, online searches (including the dark web) and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment or age.

Recruitment Agencies

We have a team of internal recruiters and advertise our vacancies to attract candidates and not agency suppliers. If we need agency assistance, we will reach out to our trusted partners. Any speculative CVs we receive will not be accepted as an introduction.

Opportunity and Market

Rugby, Warwickshire, United Kingdom has 1 linked active ArtistPro listing. National population supplies scale, but it does not establish city-level demand. [1]

Career Outlook

The national unemployment indicator provides broad context only. Occupation- and city-specific demand was unavailable from a validated jurisdictional dataset, so Career Opportunity and Career Safety scores are omitted. [3]

Compensation

GDP per capita is included solely as national economic context. It is not a salary-equivalency or purchasing-power calculation, and the listing’s currency, taxes, pension and contract terms must be verified. [2]

Housing and Cost of Living

Validated city-level housing and rent data were unavailable in this automated run. Candidates should use official or regulated local housing sources and avoid treating national economic indicators as rent estimates.

Commute

Validated city-level commute and transportation-cost data were unavailable. Confirm the exact worksite, transit availability and commuting rules with the employer before relocating.

Community Snapshot

United Kingdom national population and economic indicators provide country context; they do not support neighborhood-level claims about safety, culture or community fit. [1] [2]

Local Economy

The national unemployment and GDP-per-capita indicators describe the broader economy, not the city or employer. [3] [2]

Relocation Considerations

Work authorization, healthcare eligibility and tax obligations are jurisdiction-specific and can determine whether the role is viable. Use the official linked resources and confirm sponsorship directly with the employer. [4] [5] [6]

What I Wish I'd Known Before Taking the Job

A job offer does not itself prove visa eligibility, sponsorship, healthcare access or net take-home pay. Confirm all four before paying relocation costs. [4] [5] [6]

Methodology

This report uses World Bank national indicators and official jurisdictional resources. City-level figures and scores are omitted where authoritative data were not acquired.
