Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Music Teacher to deliver high-quality music education to pupils across EYFS, KS1 and KS2.

The role will involve teaching whole classes and small groups, developing pupils' musical knowledge, practical skills, confidence and enjoyment of music. The successful candidate will also contribute to the school's wider musical life through choirs, clubs, performances and events where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate music lessons.

Teach whole classes and small groups with different abilities and learning needs.

Develop skills in singing, rhythm, pitch, notation, composition, listening and performance.

Differentiate lessons to support and challenge individual pupils.

Encourage creativity, confidence and a lifelong appreciation of music.

Support choirs, ensembles, music clubs and school performances as required.

Monitor pupil progress and provide constructive feedback.

Work collaboratively with teachers, school leadership and Visiting Music Teachers.

Maintain a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.

Contribute positively to the wider life and ethos of the school.

Person Specification – Essential

Minimum 3 years' experience teaching or tutoring music.

Experience working with children in an educational setting.

Strong knowledge of music theory and practical musicianship.

Ability to teach whole classes and small groups.

Excellent communication and classroom-management skills.

Ability to plan lessons for different ages, abilities and learning styles.

Passion for inspiring children through music.

Strong piano/keyboard and/or vocal skills.

Person Specification – Desirable

Music degree, diploma or equivalent qualification.

QTS/PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.

Experience in an independent or prep-school setting.

Experience leading choirs, ensembles or school performances.

Ability to play additional instruments.

Experience preparing pupils for ABRSM, Trinity or similar examinations.
