Are you an inspirational piano teacher who is passionate about nurturing musical talent and helping young musicians thrive? Join the vibrant Music Department at Surbiton High School and play a key role in developing pupils' musical skills, confidence and love of performance.

The Music Department at Surbiton High School is vibrant, thriving, and ambitious. We have over 400 individual instrumental and singing lessons taking place each week, and a large team of classroom teachers and VMTs (Visiting Instrumental Teachers). The Department achieves strong outcomes at both GCSE (Edexcel) and A Level (Eduqas), as well as ABRSM outcomes including ARSM. Students regularly leave to study Music at outstanding institutions and conservatoires.  The Department runs a wide range of ensembles across multiple genres, and the busy concert programme includes performances locally and at major venues, including Cadogan Hall and the Royal Festival Hall. VMTs take advantage of the internal platforms such as the Instrumental and Concerto Festivals, and informal Soloist Evenings and Coffee Morning Recitals (at the prep schools), to promote a love of music in their pupils.

What you will do:

•              Deliver engaging and high-quality piano lessons to pupils across a wide range of ages and abilities.

•              Plan tailored lessons that challenge, inspire and support individual pupil progress.

•              Monitor, assess and report on pupil achievement and development.

•              Prepare pupils for examinations, performances and platform concerts.

•              Encourage independent learning and effective practice habits.

•              Maintain accurate attendance records and lesson timetables.

•              Contribute to concerts, ensembles and the wider musical life of the School.

•              Support the Music Department's culture of excellence, aspiration and achievement.

What we are looking for:

•              An accomplished piano teacher with the ability to inspire pupils of all ages and abilities.

•              A strong track record of successful instrumental teaching and pupil achievement.

•              Excellent communication, organisation and administrative skills.

•              A collaborative team player who enjoys contributing to a busy and successful department.

•              A musician with a passion for performance and musical education.

•              A degree-level qualification and evidence of continued professional development would be advantageous.

•              A commitment to high standards, professionalism and safeguarding.

Why join us?

•              Become part of a thriving and highly regarded Music Department.

•              Teach enthusiastic and talented pupils who are passionate about music.

•              Contribute to an extensive programme of concerts, recitals and musical events.

•              Work alongside experienced and dedicated music professionals.

•              Benefit from a supportive and collaborative school community.

•              Play a role in shaping the musical journeys of pupils who go on to study at leading universities and conservatoires.

Please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification for further details.

If you are an enthusiastic and talented piano teacher looking to inspire the next generation of musicians, we would love to hear from you.
