Job Title:  Band Co-Director  (5th Grade – 12th Grade)

Employment Type: Full Time, 10 months, Benefits Eligible

Start Date: August 2027

Paideia is an independent, progressive  pre-K through 12 college-preparatory school in the Emory University area of Atlanta. The high school enrolls approximately 465 students. The curriculum consists of extensive offerings in English, social sciences, mathematics, foreign languages, natural and physical sciences, art, and music. Class size averages 15 students. Students at every level of the school engage music instruction. Music is an area of strength at Paideia; the school’s music program is led by a team of musician teachers.

Job Description

This full-time position includes collaboratively leading the instrumental music program across divisions of the school. The orchestral program (strings) and choral music are the other sections of this robust music program.

The band teacher team teaches and coordinates performance groups in high school, junior high, and elementary; provides individual and group instruction for brass instruments, woodwinds, as well as percussion; maintains the band library; organizes and attends after school, evening, and weekend performances/rehearsals.

Specifically, this position takes a lead role in Jazz Band ( in collaboration with the co-teacher) and a supporting role in the Concert Band ( in collaboration with co-teacher). The lead role in Jazz Band requires preparing, selecting and/or arranging music.

Other job requirements include; weekly faculty meetings, carpool duty, chaperoning field trips, collaborating with their department, and participating as a full member of the school community.

Job Requirements

We are looking for a dynamic educator to join our student-centered learning community. The position requires flexibility and confidence to design and teach music curricula to widely talented students in our inclusive community. Issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion are explored in every aspect of this school community and faculty members must be willing to lead in this area.

Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in music. While a masters level degree is appreciated, it is not required. At least 3-5 years of teaching experience is preferred. A background in arranging and transcribing music is helpful and experience in music notation programs is strongly recommended.

Application Notes:

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. A benefits package is offered for benefits-eligible positions. The Paideia School is an equal opportunity employer.

Interested applicants should submit a resume, cover letter and contact information for three professional references via our online application.

For more information about Paideia or to apply for this position, please see the school’s web site at www.paideiaschool.org.

Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America Location Report

By SBO+ Staff · Effective 2026-10-21

View this location on OpenStreetMap →

Opportunity and Market

Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America is evaluated with current GA labor-market evidence because a validated city profile was unavailable. The Census API city profile could not be acquired in this run; the report uses current state labor-market observations and labels their scope explicitly. [2] [3]

Career Outlook

The statewide unemployment rate supplies current labor-market context, but it does not prove demand for this occupation or employer. Occupation-specific scores are omitted. [1]

Compensation

No salary-equivalency or take-home-pay figure is asserted without listing pay and defensible local cost inputs. Federal tax brackets must be applied to the candidate’s actual filing circumstances. [4]

Housing and Cost of Living

HUD Fair Market Rent resources are provided for a housing comparison using the verified worksite or its county. No city rent is asserted when it was not acquired. [5]

Commute

A validated city commute value was unavailable. Confirm the exact worksite, schedule, transit coverage, parking and fuel costs before accepting relocation expenses.

Community Snapshot

State labor-force scale is not evidence of neighborhood safety, culture or community fit; no such inference is made. [3]

Local Economy

Current statewide employment, labor-force and unemployment observations describe the broader labor environment, not a guaranteed city or occupation outcome. [2] [3] [1]

Relocation Considerations

Verify worksite-level housing, commute, taxes, utilities, benefits, contract length and any remote-work restrictions before relocating. [5] [4]

What I Wish I'd Known Before Taking the Job

A healthy statewide labor market does not guarantee that a specialized music education role is easy to replace. Confirm contract stability, nearby housing and the real commute before paying relocation costs. [2] [1]

Methodology

This report uses the latest retrievable BLS Local Area Unemployment Statistics for the listing’s state. It explicitly withholds city, occupation and affordability scores when those inputs were not acquired.
