SY 26-27 High School Science Instructor at TAPA: Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts | Providence, RI

TAPA: Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts, an academically rigorous public charter school for the arts, seeks a High School Science Instructor for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate values the connections between the sciences and the arts and brings a thoughtful, student-centered approach to interdisciplinary instruction.

TAPA’s creative community is enriched by the cultural, religious, racial, ethnic, and linguistic diversity of our neurodiverse families, students, and employees. Demographically, nearly all members of the TAPA student body are people of color, predominantly Latinx, with many students speaking both English and Spanish in their homes. A significant portion of TAPA’s student body identifies as members of the LGBTQ+ community. We aim to hire staff members who reflect the diversity of our students and who demonstrate an understanding of the strengths and experiences they bring.

The High School Science Instructor teaches five classes, each with approximately 18 students. TAPA is open to candidates with any secondary science certification, including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, General Science, or another applicable science certification. The instructor will also work directly with a smaller group of High School students to lead an Advisory. It is our hope that an Adviser stays with their advisory throughout the students’ high school years at TAPA. Advisory provides an opportunity for social-emotional learning and support. The Advisor/Advisee relationship ensures that every student has a school-based advocate and a first-line connection to TAPA. Advisors and Advisees build strong relationships and bridges through empathy. This position is an incredible opportunity to join TAPA's tight-knit teaching corps.

At TAPA, Science is taught utilizing an arts-integrated curriculum aligned with the NGSS Standards. The arts are deeply embedded into the core of interdisciplinary learning. TAPA prepares students to successfully meet or exceed Rhode Island’s graduation requirements and perform at (or above) grade level on all state and local assessments. TAPA meets each student’s individual academic needs using assessment data and continuous feedback while providing clear academic, social, and artistic expectations.

At its core, TAPA is a student-centered, caring community that fosters leadership, intellect, self-confidence, and responsibility. Respect for diverse experiences and inclusive approaches to teaching and learning are foundational to our school culture. Candidates with backgrounds or experiences that contribute to this work are encouraged to apply.

NOTE: SchoolSpring is notoriously user unfriendly. If you would prefer, you can send your application (cover letter, resume, and references) to [email protected]

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proven interest and/or involvement in the Arts

• Rhode Island Teaching Certification in Science, including Biology, Chemistry, Physics, General Science, or another applicable secondary Science certification, or the ability to secure an Emergency Certification

• Experience with and knowledge of an NGSS-based Science curriculum

• Experience and knowledge working within a student-centered and responsive framework for Science instruction

• Evidence of respect for and ability to work with students from a wide range of backgrounds

• Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse perspectives, experiences, and strengths that students and staff bring to their work

• Ability to integrate curriculum within and between Science and the Arts

• Ability to gather and utilize both formative and summative assessments to create individualized learning plans

• Desire to be an integral member of a Professional Learning Community

• A commitment to, and understanding of, Urban Education

• Knowledge of utilizing a student-centered approach to teaching and learning

• Proven ability to form working partnerships with parents and community members

• Knowledge of modifying curriculum for Multilingual Learners and differently-abled learners without compromising rigor or high expectations

• Knowledge of the local and/or national Arts community

Providence, RI, USA Location Report

By SBO+ Staff · Effective 2026-08-20

View this location on OpenStreetMap →

Opportunity and Market

Providence, RI, USA is evaluated with current RI labor-market evidence because a validated city profile was unavailable. The Census API city profile could not be acquired in this run; the report uses current state labor-market observations and labels their scope explicitly. [2] [3]

Career Outlook

The statewide unemployment rate supplies current labor-market context, but it does not prove demand for this occupation or employer. Occupation-specific scores are omitted. [1]

Compensation

No salary-equivalency or take-home-pay figure is asserted without listing pay and defensible local cost inputs. Federal tax brackets must be applied to the candidate’s actual filing circumstances. [4]

Housing and Cost of Living

HUD Fair Market Rent resources are provided for a housing comparison using the verified worksite or its county. No city rent is asserted when it was not acquired. [5]

Commute

A validated city commute value was unavailable. Confirm the exact worksite, schedule, transit coverage, parking and fuel costs before accepting relocation expenses.

Community Snapshot

State labor-force scale is not evidence of neighborhood safety, culture or community fit; no such inference is made. [3]

Local Economy

Current statewide employment, labor-force and unemployment observations describe the broader labor environment, not a guaranteed city or occupation outcome. [2] [3] [1]

Relocation Considerations

Verify worksite-level housing, commute, taxes, utilities, benefits, contract length and any remote-work restrictions before relocating. [5] [4]

What I Wish I'd Known Before Taking the Job

A healthy statewide labor market does not guarantee that a specialized music education role is easy to replace. Confirm contract stability, nearby housing and the real commute before paying relocation costs. [2] [1]

Methodology

This report uses the latest retrievable BLS Local Area Unemployment Statistics for the listing’s state. It explicitly withholds city, occupation and affordability scores when those inputs were not acquired.
