Position Summary

The Elementary Music Teacher provides engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction for students in grades 2–5. This position fosters a love of music while building foundational skills in singing, rhythm, movement, and musical understanding. The teacher creates an inclusive classroom environment, supports diverse learners, and collaborates with staff and families to enhance student learning.

Essential Responsibilities

Student Learning & Achievement

• Plans and delivers engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction for students in grades 2–5.

• Teaches foundational music skills, including singing, rhythm, movement, listening, and the use of instruments.

• Uses a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of learners.

• Demonstrates strong content knowledge in elementary music education.

Relationships & Culture

• Creates a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and supported.

• Establishes clear expectations and uses effective classroom management strategies to promote a productive learning environment.

• Builds respectful and collaborative relationships with students, staff, and administration.

Family & Community Engagement

• Provides opportunities for family involvement through performances and school events.

• Collaborates with colleagues and staff to support school-wide initiatives and strengthen community connections.

Professional Collaboration & Growth

• Maintains music materials, instruments, and classroom resources in an organized and responsible manner.

• Participates in ongoing professional development to enhance instructional practices and content knowledge.

Professional Expectations

• Demonstrates professionalism in all interactions with students, staff, families, and the community while adhering to district policies, procedures, and expectations.

• Engages in ongoing professional growth and fulfills all responsibilities in a timely, ethical, and responsible manner that supports student success and a positive school culture.

Qualifications

• Valid Iowa Teaching License

• K-8 Music - 144

Terms of Employment

Employment terms, salary, benefits, and evaluation procedures are established by the Storm Lake Community School District Board of Education and applicable agreements. Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory performance and compliance with district policies and state and federal regulations.
