JodyJazz Inc introduced their new POWER RING Ligature. The JodyJazz POWER RING Ligature improves upon the original JodyJazz Ring Ligature with an all new design that provides both a significant improvement in performance and greatly enhanced visual appeal.

Taking the essence of his original ring ligature design, Jody Espina has added greater thickness and heft together with more pronounced side curves and extreme contoured edges both top and bottom. Espina developed the original ring ligature to provide an elegant solution to the problem with ligatures that dampen vibration of the reed. Like the original ring ligature, the new POWER RING’s self-locking CNC machined taper touches on three points only; the left and right side of the reed and on top of the mouthpiece. There are no moving or added parts, thereby increasing the efficiency of vibration. The increased mass and greater wall thickness of the new POWER RING Ligature, together with its more contoured shape, provides a solid contact with the reed at the points where they touch. This allows the most freedom and vibration of the reed which in turn also increases the amount of harmonics present, allowing the fullest saxophone sound containing high, mid and low frequencies.

“The best saxophone ligature in my opinion, allows the reed the most freedom to vibrate.” said Jody Espina, JodyJazz president and designer of the POWER RING Ligature. “We know that the more vibration there is from the reed, the more harmonics will be present in the saxophone sound, but increasing the efficiency of the reed’s vibration will also make the mouthpiece feel easier to blow and provide more power. This was my goal for the new POWER RING Ligature and it is exactly what it achieves.”

The first POWER RING Ligature models to be launched have been designed specifically for the JodyJazz DV, DV CHI and DV NY series of saxophone mouthpieces.  Though there are numerous ligature models by many well-known brands on the market that fit and work well with the JodyJazz DV, DV CHI or DV NY series, none of them have been designed specifically for these mouthpieces.  The taper of the POWER RING Ligature is perfectly designed to be an exact fit with the DV, DV CHI and DV NY series mouthpieces. The POWER RING simply slides over the reed and becomes very secure as it is pushed tightly over the reed.

The new POWER RING Ligatures are individually CNC machined from virgin brass at the JodyJazz factory in Savannah, GA. They will be available first in the Alto (MA1) and Tenor (MT1 & MT1S) models, with the Soprano (MS1) and Baritone (MB1) models following later in 2017.  Their standard finish is 24kt Gold, however the Tenor model is also available in Sterling Silver finish.

JodyJazz POWER RING Ligature comes with a deluxe pouch and has an MSRP of $59.95.
