 Bill Charlap (photo by Philippe Levy)Juilliard Jazz presents “The Music of Gerry Mulligan” with guest conductor Bill Charlap and the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra on Friday, October 14, 2016, at 7:30pm in Juilliard’s Peter Jay Sharp Theater.

One of the most widely respected and admired jazz musicians of our time, Gerry Mulligan is recognized as a composer, arranger, saxophonist, and conductor. He performed with such jazz legends as Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Lester Young, Duke Ellington, Juilliard alumnus Miles Davis, Jack Teagarden, David Brubeck, and Billie Holliday.

The Juilliard Jazz Orchestra program will feature Mulligan’s compositions: Young Blood; Walkin’ Shoes; Walk on the Water; Bweedida Bobbida; A Ballad (arr. by Bob Brookmeyer); Jeru; Line for Lyons; Festive Minor; 42nd and Broadway; Lonesome Boulevard; Swing House; and K-4 Pacific.

Juilliard Jazz Orchestra members are Immanuel Wilkins, David Milazzo, Julian Lee, Evan Atwell-Harris,Christopher Bittner (saxophones); Noah Halpern (lead), Nathan Sparks(lead), David Adewumi, and Jonah Moss (trumpets); Kalia Vandever, Nick Lee, Jeffery Miller, and Will Hawley (trombones); and Lake Jiroudek (guitar); Isaiah Thompson (piano); Sebastian Rios (bass); and Cameron MacIntosh (drums).The resident conductor is James Burton III.
