The Pride of Kirbyville Marching Band earned all Division I Superior ratings at the UIL Regional Marching Contest, marking the first time in five years the ensemble achieved that distinction. KJAS.com reported that every judge awarded Kirbyville High School the highest possible rating, recognizing the students’ preparation and dedication throughout the marching season.
The accomplishment qualifies the Kirbyville band to advance to the UIL Area Marching Competition scheduled for Saturday, October 24, in Whitehouse, Texas, where the ensemble will compete for a chance to reach the UIL State Marching Contest. Kirbyville was the only school among Kirbyville, Buna, Jasper, and Woodville to advance to Area competition.
Several other Southeast Texas high school marching bands also earned Superior ratings. In Class 3A, Anahuac, East Chambers, Hardin, Kirbyville, and Orangefield received Division I ratings. Class 4A saw eight bands earn Division I ratings, with seven advancing to Area while Hardin-Jefferson moves on to the UIL State Military Marching Contest. In Class 5A, Dayton, Nederland, Port Neches-Groves, and West Brook qualified for Area competition.
Buna High School earned a Division II Excellent rating in Class 3A, while Jasper High School received the same rating in Class 4A and Woodville High School earned Division II in Class 3A.
