The Professional Music Conservatory of León will not open until the 2027/2028 academic year, marking another significant delay for the project intended to replace the current Santa Nonia center. Heraldo de León reported that regional authorities acknowledged difficulties in the final construction phase are preventing the building from becoming operational sooner.
According to sources from the Junta of Castilla y León cited by Heraldo de León, while work continues to finish the project quickly, the forecast now points to a start date five years later than the initial 2022/2023 target. Education Councilor María Pardo and regional delegate Eduardo Diego previously noted obstacles conditioning the project’s evolution, including contract terminations and rising material costs that halted construction for nearly two years. The administration approved a new investment of more than 5.6 million euros in October 2024 to resume work, which had reached approximately 80% completion by early 2026.
This extended timeline means the new 4,800-square-meter building remains incomplete. The future conservatory promises over 40 classrooms, specialized booths, and an auditorium designed for acoustic performance. The facility, with an estimated global investment of 10 million euros, is meant to serve as the new benchmark for regulated musical education in the capital, though successive calendar changes have prolonged the wait for the long-claimed building.
