Livestream expands access to 84th Harvest of Harmony Parade bands

Music educators, students and families unable to attend the 84th Harvest of Harmony Parade in Grand Island, Nebraska, on Oct. 3 can watch marching bands perform through a livestream broadcast, Central Nebraska Today reported.

The broadcast begins at 8:15 a.m. from the Visit Grand Island office overlooking the parade route on Third Street. Announcers Brad Mellema and Sara Kirkley will introduce each band, float and entry as it passes, according to the report.

The stream will be available on the Grand Island Area EDC and Chamber YouTube channel and at grandisland.org under the Events tab. It will not be recorded or available after the parade ends, Central Nebraska Today reported.

Mellema said the production uses three cameras to capture wide and closeup shots of bands as they march by. Several thousand people watched the livestream at any one time last year, while approximately 15,000 spectators attended downtown, according to the report.

The parade’s theme celebrates America’s 250th birthday, which Mellema said is fitting given the music and floats involved. The event is in its 84th year and remains part of the community’s identity, Central Nebraska Today reported.
