MakeMusic, Inc. announced today that Finale, its flagship music notation product, will now feature reduced pricing for new and existing customers.

MakeMusic’s mission is to have more pieces practiced and performed, and to become the reference ecosystem for music practice. The decision to reduce the price was made to better align Finale with this mission, and to increase access to the software for all music creators.

The breakdown of pricing is as follows:

  • New purchases of Finale (non-academic) will be reduced from $600 to $299
  • New purchases of Finale Academic will be reduced from $350 to $99
  • Upgrades from a previous version of Finale will be reduced from $150 to $99
  • Trade-ups from other MakeMusic products (such as PrintMusic or Notepad) will be reduced from $200 to $99

For more information about the price change, please refer to the Finale blog post Special Announcement Regarding Finale Pricing.

The latest version of Finale, Finale v27, was released in June of 2021. This version incorporates new features and updates that support content sharing, refined workflows, playback improvements, and bug fixes.

Features added in v27 include:

  • Interactive music sharing enables you to quickly and easily share your notated documents with anybody.
  • Standard Music Font Layout (SMuFL) support organizes musical characters into a common layout so music fonts are displayed correctly in every notation application that supports it.
  • Improved instrument database ensures your notation looks and that you hear the correct sounds when playing a document.
  • MusicXML 4.0 support provides even more control when transporting your compositions.
  • Native support for Apple Silicon processors.
  • Revamped SMuFL-compliant Jazz Default Document created by Darcy James Argue
  • Ability to switch non-SMuFL music fonts in documents to SMuFL-compliant music fonts.
