Mifflin County High School will host the Tournament of Bands Pennsylvania State Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31, at noon at Donald M. Chapman III Stadium in Derry Township, ABC27 reported.
The annual event is the penultimate contest before the Atlantic Coast Championships, the final event of the Tournament of Bands circuit schedule. As of Thursday, Oct. 15, 14 bands from across Pennsylvania had signed up to perform, according to ABC27.
Superintendent Vance Varner told ABC27 the district is proud to welcome the championships and is especially excited to have the Mifflin County High School Band competing. He said the district welcomes talented student musicians, their families, and supporters from across the state.
Last year, the state championships were held at Mansion Park in Altoona, where Mifflin County took first place in their division. The Huskies continued their winning ways this season, taking first place in their division at the North Schuylkill Tournament of Bands event earlier in October, ABC27 reported.
Varner added that seeing students pursue their passions, challenge themselves, and represent their school and community with pride is one of the most rewarding aspects of his role. He said the district looks forward to interacting with bands from across Pennsylvania and cheering on the Huskies.
