The Mineola Marching Band has launched its 2026 season following a historic New York State Field Band Conference victory. Longislandpress.com reported that the ensemble, comprising 120 student musicians and performers, kicked off preparations with a six-day immersive camp in the Poconos this August. Students dedicated extensive hours to rehearsing music and choreography while engaging in team-building activities designed to strengthen bonds between learners and staff.
According to longislandpress.com, the group’s new program, titled “Grim,” centers on alternative reasons to smile, ranging from sinister expressions to confident determination. The production features Charlie Chaplin’s “Smile” as a musical centerpiece, supplemented by works from Imogen Heap and Benjamin Britten. Band Director Kenneth Kamping stated that students refined their instrumental techniques and equipment skills throughout the summer, pushing through rainy conditions to bring the show to life.
The Mustangs aim to defend their Small School 1 division title after achieving a historic score of 95.05 in 2025. Longislandpress.com noted that the competition season opens Sept. 20 at Brentwood High School and culminates with state championships in Syracuse on Nov. 1. Additionally, the band is scheduled to perform for community audiences before a Long Island Ducks baseball game on Sept. 11.
