Southwest Arkansas Radio reported that the Mineral Springs School Board met in a special session on Tuesday, Aug. 4, and unanimously approved both a new band director and a roster of transfer students for the upcoming school year.
The board established a quorum with members William Dixon, Kay Slaton, Barnado Thomas, Ray Hawkins and Ricky Gamble present; Xavier Vaughn was absent, according to the radio report.
Board members voted 5‑0 to hire Jacob Capper as the district’s band director for 2026‑27, with the motion introduced by Barnado Thomas and seconded by Kay Slaton, the report said.
The same vote also approved the district’s transfer student requests, the report added, with the motion again made by Thomas and seconded by Slaton. The approved list includes students such as Holly Hall, Amanda Hamilton, Travis Benson, Roger Chandler, Derrik Womack, Tabetha Nguyen, Ashley Jackson, Leo Leyva, Layla Sirmon, McKenna Marshall and others.
