Montgomery County Superintendent highlights district excellence through video series

Montgomery County Schools is elevating visibility for its educators and student achievers through a weekly video initiative, Kentucky Teacher reported. Superintendent Stephanie Harris features the “Everyday Excellence” series to showcase staff, students and community partners, recently highlighting the district’s school band director alongside state fair award winners and school resource officers.

Harris, who has worked in Montgomery County for her entire 26-year education career, stated the minute-long videos posted on social media aim to cultivate excellence and strengthen community ties. Her leadership priorities include boosting literacy and math achievement while implementing a “portrait of a learner” framework that emphasizes real-world competencies.

Under this three-year plan, elementary students participate in “engaged citizen day” activities, visiting local agencies to ask questions and learn from community members before writing about their experiences. The district also utilizes its own Chenault Farm to allow agriculture students to apply skills learned in class. Harris emphasized that support staff, including bus drivers and nutrition workers, play vital roles in removing barriers and ensuring educational access. She described the district’s approach as a “whatever-it-takes” mentality designed to make every member feel part of a family while bringing learning experiences to life.
