The 150-member ensemble performed alongside Penn State University’s Blue Band and musical creator Lin-Manuel Miranda at MetLife Stadium. This collaboration marked the first time the Broadway production participated in an NFL halftime show.
Tony Award-winning composer Alex Lacamoire and music educator Don P. Roberts arranged the medley to blend HBCU precision with theatrical vocals. Behind-the-scenes accounts indicate student musicians from both universities rehearsed together only hours before kickoff to synchronize complex movement and sound. Director of Bands Dr. Jorim E. Reid Sr. led the group through this high-pressure environment, demonstrating the adaptability required of collegiate ensembles.
