Mississippi State University’s MSU’s Got Talent took place Sept. 30 in Bettersworth Auditorium, reflector-online.com reported.
The Student Association-produced event featured eight finalists selected through video auditions, with the top three prizes going to Sadie Kittler in third place, Kaiya Ivy in second place and Zach Todd in first place, according to the report.
Freshman Rachel Swetz, an animal and dairy sciences major, told reflector-online.com she had not sung in a choir since high school and performed “Monster” from the “Frozen” Broadway musical, a song she said was her go-to song in high school for auditions.
Todd, a freshman professional meteorology major who has played trombone since sixth grade and performs in the Famous Maroon Band, combined vocals with a trombone solo during his winning rendition of Elvis Presley’s “If I Can Dream,” the report said. He credited the band’s trombone section among his supporters.
Other performers included percussionist and pianist Jerremy Moore, who played from memory despite keyboard technical issues, and guitarist Daryn Smith, who performed Phil Ochs’ “That’s What I Want to Hear,” reflector-online.com reported. Music department professor Roza Tulyagnova served as a judge and complimented Kittler’s choice to stand still during her song for dramatic effect.
