Music Education New Zealand Aotearoa reports that the annual Strum, Strike and Blow festival will bring together 1,500 tamariki from across Canterbury to play ukuleles, marimbas and recorders. The event is described as both a learning experience and a fun celebration for participants of all ages.
The organization notes that each registered school receives three teacher workshops and a full rehearsal on the day of the festival, scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the arena. During the rehearsals, students perform live alongside a professional band, and the music program is tailored to accommodate all skill levels.
On September 2, the participating schools will present a 75‑minute family‑friendly concert from 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. The festival also offers ticket sales, donations and T‑shirt purchases through its official website. Organizers emphasize the collaborative nature of the event, which aims to strengthen music education and community engagement among New Zealand’s youth.
