KOCO reported that a select group of Mustang High School band students and their parents volunteered at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma to launch the organization’s 2026 Students Against Hunger initiative. The band members partnered with the food bank for a Day of Service event held Tuesday night in Oklahoma City.
According to KOCO, members of the school’s drumline performed to greet volunteers as they arrived at the center. Kristin Ritchter, a former president of the Mustang Band Club, told the station that participation involved a selective process, noting that most attending students belong to honor societies and were earning required volunteer hours. Ritchter emphasized that the effort allows students to give back to a community that supports them, adding that some participants are personally affected by hunger and can make a difference in their peer’s life.
The Students Against Hunger initiative runs through November 30, KOCO stated. Participating schools will be eligible to compete for awards recognizing their efforts. The event marked the beginning of the program.
