nhl.com reported that the Nashville Predators Foundation awarded a $2,500 grant to the W.O. Smith Music School to fund a technology upgrade project.
The school, founded in 1984 by William Oscar Smith, offers affordable, high‑quality music instruction to children ages 8 to 18 from low‑income families throughout the Metropolitan Nashville area.
Students who qualify for the USDA Free and Reduced Lunch Program pay just 50 cents per lesson and receive an instrument, instructional materials and instruction from volunteer teaching artists, according to nhl.com.
The grant will be used to update classroom technology, enabling better teacher assessments, student surveys and access to online music resources, which nhl.com said will create more interactive and inclusive learning experiences.
During a recent visit, nhl.com noted that Dr. Valerie Cordero, executive director, Anna Arata, director of donor and media relations, and longtime supporter Ronnie Greer were on hand to discuss the school’s impact and future plans.
