Nebraska Marching Band Students Hone Skills in Intensive Camp

LINCOLN, Neb. – Approximately 300 University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) students are engaged in intensive training this week as part of the Cornhusker Marching Band’s annual band camp, 1011now.com reported.

The week-long camp focuses on foundational musical and marching skills, according to Director Tony Falcone. Students participate in drills throughout the day, working on pre-game show routines and developing essential skills beyond musical performance. This year’s camp is being held at the Vine Street Recreation Fields due to a scheduling conflict with a concert at Memorial Stadium.

Drum Major Hudson Carrico emphasized the importance of camaraderie among band members, noting the shared commitment to excellence fosters a supportive and energetic environment. Falcone added that participation in the band cultivates valuable life skills such as preparation, loyalty, dedication, teamwork, and leadership.

The week of training will culminate in a public exposition concert next Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Memorial Stadium. The band will then prepare for its first performance at a Husker football game on Sept. 5, with a new show planned for each of the seven home games this season. The experience provides students with a robust musical education and valuable life lessons.
