NeuroRedes marks 11 years of inclusive music education in Mérida

The NeuroRedes project in Mérida, Spain, marks eleven years of using music as a tool for neuropsychological stimulation, learning and social inclusion, Hoy reported. The pioneering European initiative offers twelve places for classes on Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Professional Conservatory of Music ‘Esteban Sánchez,’ beginning tomorrow and running through June 2.

Silvia Núñez Díaz, a piano teacher at the conservatory since 2000 and creator of the Sinudi method, described NeuroRedes as a proposal combining 21st-century music education with contributions from the neurosciences, according to Hoy. Núñez said music enables work on cognitive abilities, helps regulate emotional states and generates new learning opportunities without distinction of age or ability.

Hoy reported that Núñez highlighted advances in coexistence between NeuroRedes students and conservatory students, who shared educational spaces such as choir and music theory classes during the last academic year. She said the experience favors mutual learning and reinforces the inclusive dimension of the project, contributing to a more empathetic and humane society.

Conservatory director Soledad Arroyo reaffirmed the center’s willingness to host projects promoting inclusion and educational innovation, while Susana Fajardo, delegate for University Accessibility and Inclusion, stressed that NeuroRedes helps discover the talent of people with disabilities and offers opportunities for musical training, personal development and social integration, Hoy reported.
