New Conservatory in León to Open Next School Year

The new Professional Music Conservatory of León is slated to open during the next school year, according to heraldodeleon.es. The facility, located in the La Palomera neighborhood, is nearing completion after a series of construction delays.

Construction is progressing under the Ourense-based company Obras y Servicios Gómez Crespo, which took over the project after the initial contractor faced financial difficulties, heraldodeleon.es reported. The project’s cost is currently estimated at 5.3 million euros. The building will encompass 8,725.41 square meters and is designed to accommodate 600 students, with 240 in elementary education and 360 in professional education, according to the project description.

The conservatory will include 48 classrooms, including spaces for general training, chamber music, instrumental instruction, and a 400-seat auditorium, as well as a library and administrative offices. However, educators currently teaching at the Santa Nonia Conservatory have voiced concerns that the facility is undersized and lacks room for future expansion, heraldodeleon.es stated. They have previously expressed that while the new conservatory is beneficial, it may not be sufficient to meet the needs of the region’s music students.
