Rebecca Matte has joined the Herkimer Central School District. According to information reported by herkimercsd.org, Matte expressed excitement about starting auditions this fall for the middle school musical, show choir and high school musical.
Matte told the district she decided to pursue teaching at age 12 after positive experiences with her own middle school band and chorus instructors. She graduated from the Crane School of Music in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in music education and performance. Before returning to New York, she spent three years in Boston completing a master’s degree while teaching various music subjects including voice lessons, theory and choir.
The educator noted that her graduate work involved diverse instructional roles. When asked what makes the district special, Matte cited the people, describing them as kind and proud to work there. A Rome, N.Y., native, she viewed the job posting as a sign it was time to come home.
