NFHS releases video series on digital sharing for School events

The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) reported the launch of “Beyond the Building,” a new video series designed to assist educators and schools in navigating copyright and licensing issues related to sharing student performances online. Created in partnership with School Music License, the resource addresses how technology has transformed the way schools connect with communities through streaming and social media.

NFHS Executive Director Davis Whitfield stated that the initiative provides essential educational resources for schools seeking to stream, archive, and share events on digital platforms while adhering to legal requirements. Chris Paulson, NFHS director of performing arts and sports, noted that while arts programs strive to expand their reach beyond local communities, significant questions remain regarding responsible online engagement with copyrighted content.

The series features insights from various music education leaders and industry experts, including representatives from Conn-Selmer, GIA Publications, and Fred Bock Music. Hosted by Brenna C. Horn-Cronin, the episodes explore opportunities and responsibilities associated with digital engagement in an increasingly connected world. The first three episodes are currently available for educators to view as they work to balance community access with compliance in their event-sharing practices.
