OGDEN High band director fired; district reassigns staff to support students

The Standard-Examiner reported that Ogden High School’s band director, Stanley Renda, had his employment terminated by the Ogden School District following a domestic violence arrest. District Communications Director Jer Bates confirmed the termination was effective Wednesday, noting that state law limits disclosure regarding specific personnel actions. Court documents cited by the newspaper detail charges against Renda involving aggravated assault and domestic violence in the presence of children, though Bates stated no students or school activities were involved in the incident.

To address the sudden vacancy and support the music education program, district and school leaders have implemented immediate staffing adjustments. Bates explained that existing band staff and district music leaders are assuming expanded responsibilities while the hiring process for a permanent replacement begins. The administration emphasized that minimizing disruption to student rehearsals, performances, and competitions remains a top priority. Scheduled band activities will continue as planned unless families receive direct updates otherwise. Additionally, counseling and administrative support have been made available to help students process this unexpected change in their ensemble leadership.
