Ohio County High School marching band reaches state semifinals for first time since 2016

Ohio County High School’s marching band has advanced to the Kentucky state semifinals for the first time since 2016, finishing sixth at regionals to secure one of 12 spots in Class 4-A. WBKO reported the milestone, which comes under new band director Dylan Harrison and with a new show titled Daisy Chained.

Harrison told WBKO he set a goal with students to make semifinals this season. The band will compete Saturday at Barren County High School, where the top six advance to state finals at Western Kentucky University later that day.

Freshman Mason Swift told WBKO he enjoys playing new music and being outdoors. Senior Keegan Cooper described the band as a big family. Junior Aiden Everly said his grandmother and aunt marched in the program, and a cousin currently participates, keeping a family tradition alive.

Harrison told WBKO that success is not measured on a scoreboard, saying students are successful if they come off the field feeling like a million bucks. The Kentucky Music Educators Association oversees the competition.
