Oskaloosa High marching band adds vocals, guitar to New show

Oskaloosa High School’s marching band is preparing a new production titled “All the Lonely People,” incorporating vocal solos, electric guitar, and expanded movement to strengthen student connections, the Oskaloosa News reported. Senior drum major Lilia Morris and junior drum major Carter Winchell told the outlet that ten days of camp prior to school established strict discipline and helped incoming freshmen integrate with older students.

The performance features unique elements for the program, including a vocal solo by Winchell and an electric guitar feature in the second movement, according to the report. Morris noted that color guard members with ballet experience are teaching techniques during warm-ups to improve on-field accuracy. The students emphasized that adult volunteers remain essential for managing equipment, uniforms, and sound systems behind the scenes.

Logistical improvements include a new semi-truck for transporting equipment, replacing three separate trailers, the news source stated. As the ensemble prepares for its debut at a Friday night football game, Morris described the band as a safe place for students to build friendships. Winchell added that the applause and crowd energy make the long rehearsal hours worthwhile for the performers.
