The Music Network reported that Sydney’s Oxford Creative Academy (OCA) will launch a new Diploma of Music focused on entrepreneurship in 2027. Founder and CEO Matt O’Connor told the outlet that the year-long accelerator is designed to place students in senior leadership roles, building upon the academy’s existing Certificate IV program. According to O’Connor, the curriculum covers five core sectors: creators, distribution, publishing, management and events.
Students will operate under a flipped classroom model, combining online sessions with practical projects like curating live events and launching artists. O’Connor emphasized that education must become a standardized entry point to create a sustainable music industry, warning that without such measures, the sector risks remaining a “hot mess” due to significant disruption over the last two decades. He noted his own lack of formal training drove his vision for industry-led education.
To support diverse learner needs, the academy has expanded its services to include neurodivergent learning strategies and individual study plans. The institution also continues its Industry Access Series, connecting students with executives from organizations like Spotify and the ABC. Expressions of interest for the new diploma are currently open for flexible quarterly intakes throughout 2027.
