Eddie Deaton, the music director at Page High School, has been named the local winner of the Manilow Music Teacher Award. The Greensboro News and Record reported that the recognition includes a total financial package of $10,000.
The award structure provides Deaton with a $5,000 personal cash prize. An additional $5,000 is designated specifically for the purchase of instruments for the school, according to the Greensboro News and Record. This honor coincides with Barry Manilow’s current farewell tour, which includes a stop in Greensboro as one of nine locations.
According to the Greensboro News and Record, Tennille suggested that sending a thank you note, as a polite Southern gesture, likely did not hinder the outcome. The Page High School marching band has previously performed for spectators during local events, such as the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade in Greensboro in 2020, the Greensboro News and Record noted.
